MERC Mining Emergency Response Competition

MERC is a not-for-profit event that provides world class emergency rescue training and skill building opportunities for volunteer mines rescue teams. 2025 marks the 15th year since the first MERC was hosted.
More than just a competition, MERC is an opportunity to support charities making a difference in the lives of people daily. Over the years, $850,000+ has been raised for charities that create lasting impact in our communities.
While MYNR will not be attending, we wanted to share this amazing community event.

Warwick Senior High School Careers Week

Last week I presented at the Warwick Senior High School careers week. Basically, I got to talk about my favourite things for 50 minutes - rocks, travel, and diversity!
The students were mostly interested in trades pathways, which roles pay the most (don't blame them) and rare minerals. What surprised me most, was that many didn't know the average work day is 12 hours long - a note for my next presentation to go back to REAL basics!
I felt it was important, even at this early stage of interest, to highlight the 3 most important, non-negotiables for working in mining:
🦺 A safety mindset - because they'll be responsible for not just their own safety, but their colleagues, too
💪 Resilience - because long, laboursome days are tough, and there will be many of them
💕 A good support network - because without it, you can't do the first two, and everyone deserves to feel safe and connected
Giving back to community feels amazing, but I'll be honest - this was my first presentation representing MYNR as a business founder, and I was super nervous! Thank goodness all went well, and we had some amazing chats afterward. Feedback was that the "presentation was fantastic, and it was wonderful to see how engaged and excited the kids were. They really enjoyed it and got so much out of the experience."

Boronia Employment and Transitional Expo

Today I had the privilege of visiting the Boronia Pre-release Centre for Women, and participating in their Employment and Transitional Expo.
The energy was so wholesome, and everyone attending was filled with generosity. It was an incredible few hours spent listening to women who are motivated, curious, and enthusiastic to build a new chapter after release. Many had particular interest in mining, each with their own unique story or reason why.
Experiencing their drive and optimism was certainly inspiring. I walked away reminded of how powerful opportunity, education, and understanding can be. Extremely grateful to have been part of such a lovely day, and hopeful for what is ahead for each of them.
